Howard Miller 1912-1990 of Ashe County, North Carolina, was taught to fiddle by his father, Charles, and grandfather, Monroe Miller. During his teenage years, Howard played music with master fiddler Gilliam Banmon G. Grayson, and learned much of Graysons repertoire. In 1928, Charles and Howard Miller recorded a session for Columbia Records as members of the Carolina Night Hawks. Over the next four decades, Howard won prizes at many regional fiddling contests, including the famed White Top Folk Festival. It first aired on CBC Television in 1992 and was syndicated around the world. It is set in the fictional community of Lynx River, a primarily Native-run town depicted as being in the Dehcho Region, Northwest Territories. Two of North of 60's younger actors tragically passed away not long after the series was filmed: Selina Hanuse, who played Hannah Kenidi, and Mervin Good Eagle, who played Teevee's best friend Joey Small Boat. Hanuse was struck by a vehicle and killed at the age of 17. Good Eagle died of suicide by hanging.
