Heavyweight Champion of the World is the debut single by English band Reverend and The Makers as well as the first single from their debut album, The State Of Things. The single was released on 6 May 2007 on download only and was subsequently released on CD and 7 vinyl on 28 May that year. The single was also released on a white label which was limited to 800 copies the track list for this release is the same as the standard vinyl. The song peaked at number eight on the UK Singles Chart and number. Kojima was recognised as the first MLW World Heavyweight Champion. Kojima defended the title in his home promotion All Japan Pro Wrestling AJPW, with the defenses airing on both MLW Underground TV and AJPW broadcasts in Japan. Kojima lost the title at Hybrid Hell on June 20, 2003 to Mike Awesome. Afterwards, Awesome lost the title to Steve Corino, as Corino exercised Awesome's promise for a title shot. It was later reported that Kojima's employers, AJPW would not allow him to drop the title to an employee of a rival company Pro Wrestling Zero1, which was Steve Corino. As a result, Hogan became the first IWGP Heavyweight Champion in this format. Since then, the championship was defended annually against the winner of the IWGP League of the year. Antonio Inoki won the title in 1984. Inoki won the 1986 League, and became champion for the second time. In 1987, the title was deactivated and replaced by the current IWGP Heavyweight Championship, which was awarded to the winner of the IWGP League 1987. The current championship is defended regularly, rather than as part of a tournament. The first champion was Jake Hager who won a 23-man battle royal by defeating Ted DiBiase Jr. to become the first champion. On March 22, 2008, Hager defeated FCW Southern Heavyweight Champion Heath Miller to unify the two championships and retire the FCW Southern Heavyweight Championship.
