Cold World is the third EP by industrial metal band Godflesh, released in October 1991 through Relativity Records. It was recorded and mixed during September 1991 as part of the Pure 1992 sessions. The original EP was discontinued, but, in 1996, it was reissued along with the Slateman single on one disc through Earache as the compilation SlatemanCold World. Later, in August 2009, this was reissued as part of a triple-CD package which also included the EP Slavestate 1991 and the band's second. Track 1. Cold World originally surfaced as a semi-teaser to the full-length effort, and certainly the title track would have easily fit on the album as a whole, with Robert Hampson providing another appearance with the band on a good mid-level cruncher with, indeed, prominent keyboard parts. As for Nihil, it's a fair but not deathless number that makes all the appropriate noises without being as gripping as peak Godflesh tracks. Given that Cold World is an EP that dates back to 91, Im sure most fans of Godflesh have overlooked this and tend to focus on Broadricks full lengths rather than the tid bits that came from leftovers of studio sessions. Let me be quite frank here, do not overlook EPs, especially when they are the supposed leftovers of great albums. Pure was released in 92 and showed a huge growth in Broadricks ability to take the industrial genre to new heights with the inclusion of trance-inducing melody through his head-smashing mechanical beats and jagged guitar riffs.
