During the punk, power pop, and new wave heyday of the late 70s and early 80s, Los Angeles gave birth to some of the finest bands of all three genres. From X, the Germs, the Dickies, and Social Distortion to the Knack, the Plimsouls, 2020, the Go-Go's, and the Last, there were so many exciting bands treading the boards in Southern California. But of all the acts that emerged during this time, there were two unique outfits that used the energy of the scene but took the music in a different direction: Jules & the Polar Bears and Gary Myrick & the Figures. Gary Myrick is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. Born in Dallas, Texas, Gary Myrick played guitar and sang in Dallas and neighboring Fort Worth starting as a teenager. Eventually, he built a significant enough reputation to be asked to join Austin, Texas band Krackerjack, replacing Stevie Ray Vaughan who had left to begin his solo career. After relocating to Los Angeles, California, he formed Gary Myrick & the Figures, releasing a self-titled album in 1980 which included the hit She Talks. Album 2010 19 Songs. They made a swift reputation at the legendary Cellar Club in Dallas Fortworth. The club was run by the 1950s Rockabilly legand, Johnny Carol. After 2 years and 5 nights a week Myrick was asked to co read more. Born and raised in Dallas Texas, Gary Myrick started playing music at the age of 10.
