Fela Ransome-Kuti And Africa 70: Tunde Williams - 1st Trumpet solo Eddie Faychum - 2nd Trumpet solo Igo Chiko - Tenor Sax solos Lekan Animashaun - Baritone Sax Peter is an album recorded in 1971 by Fela Kuti's band Africa '70, with the addition of former Cream drummer Ginger Baker on two songs. It was released in 1971 by EMI in Africa and Europe and by CapitolEMI in the United States and Canada. It was reissued on CD by Celluloid in 1987 and was reissued on CD in remastered form by Barclay with a bonus track from 1978. Originally released in 1971, this LP had Fela Kuti solidifying the format that would take him into international visibility in the years to come: extended tracks with grooves that mixed African and funk rhythms, punctuated by rudimentary lyrics. There are just four songs on the album, none shorter than seven minutes, and all but one going over the ten-minute mark. Listen free to Fela Kuti Fela Ransome-Kuti, Africa '70, Ginger Baker: Live. This is an album by the African performeractivist Fela Ransome-Kuti and features Ginger Baker, the famous drummer best known for his work with 60's supergroup Cream. Good sound quality for an old live recording that I personally like with a great rhythm and bass section. 5 stars. Read more. The LP helped introduced the African dance rhythm to the top of the 70-80's disco sound. One of my friends borrowed this LP from me and never returned it. I was told by a number of music stores it was no longer available. Enter Ginger Baker. Baker tooled into Nigeria in 1969, having come directly from Europe in a Land Rover. His stated purpose was to absorb and internalize the rhythms of Africa, and he was remarkably successful in accomplishing this task. Fela Kuti already had an astonishingly brilliant drummer in the form of Tony Allen, who was able to simultaneously perform a world of rhythm. Live was recorded in 1971 with Fela's group at the time, the Africa 70. Due to its demanding performance schedule, the band is remarkably tight. Interlocking rhythms drive keyboard and guitar vamps, propelling instrumental soloists on trumpet and saxophone. Fela Kuti and The Africa 70 with Ginger Baker. Originally recorded in 1971 by Fela Kutis band, Africa 70, with the addition of former Cream drummer Ginger Baker, this album contains 4 songs plus a bonus track 16-minute drum duet between Baker and Africa 70s drummer Tony Allen recorded at the 1978 Berlin Jazz Festival. released February 2, 2010. Over a decade after his death, vindication has come to Fela Kuti, Africas musical genius. AfroBeat, his gift to the world, is now an international staple on his own uncompromising terms, social content intact
