Metals is the fourth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Feist. It was released on September 30, 2011 in Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden and Belgium October 3, 2011 in the United Kingdom and October 4, 2011 in the United States and Canada. The first single from the album is How Come You Never Go There, which was released on August 12, 2011. To record Metals, Feist- along with her trusty producers Chilly Gonzales and Mocky who've been working her since she was Peaches' hypegirl back in early-2000s Toronto- headed out to Big Sur and built a studio on the side of a cliff. All the things you might associate with the area majestic expanse, outdoorsiness, and Kerouac-sized spiritual interrogation seep into Metals' sound, which conjures panoramic vistas with quiet ease. Metals is the Meek's Cutoff of Feist records, both in the way it eschews the traditional rules of the crowd-pleasing blockbuster, and also because there's a lot of talk about pioneers and mountains. On her latest album, Metals, Canadian singer-songwriter Leslie Feist. She treads lightly through a series of disjointed torch songs and smoky poprock numbers, singing most of the songs in a soft, gauzy alto, as though shes afraid of waking some sort of slumbering beast. Whenever the tempo picks up, so does Feists desire to keep things weird, with songs like A Commotion pitting pizzicato strings against a half-chanted, half-shouted refrain performed by an army of male singers. But Metals does its best work at a slower speed, where Feist can stretch her voca.
