As far as spacious, lush and minimal techno goes, this one stuck with me, and still holds its own almost three years after its initial release. Although I am usually not that excited about bleakness and spaced out atmospheres, Etapp Kyle delivers a celestial four tracker, with subtle changes, freely floating, echoing passages and denser bass lines.
Of particular interest are Astra, with its cosmic melodic interplay and the addictive bleepy loop propelled to the forefront by the quieter, yet thumping beats.
The (in my opinion) absolute standout Aurora, which is haunting minimalism par excellence. Restrained, sparse and resonating with tiny melodic bits and gorgeous pads arising from the background. To play when the party is about to end, or just lay back in your room and drift away. I dig this type of fragile, vast minimalism that flirts more with tender moods than dance floor functionality. It is still techno, though, it just wears a cozy spacesuit, rather than manifest a full-on intergalactic assault.
Prizma is more of the cosmic ray shower goodness in the manner of the A1 tune, just not as effective. Interlocking, micromelodic spheres intermingle with gentler, mildly paced beats. A wonderful repetitive groover that finds its main strength in the joyous elements of its simple, effective, functional hook line.
Drama might be the only set back of this otherwise stellar release, as it contains the musical mother of a way out everyone resorts to when they're out of ideas: modulation. The irritating key changes in this tune are barely listenable, and veer off to cheese land in no time. The track does start on a darker note, however it quickly degenerates into a trivial process of moving generic notes a step up or down the ladder. Disappointing.

That said, this 12" contains two magnificent, boundless excursions into reduced minimalism, without losing dance floor appeal or venturing two far into the abstract. The outer cuts are both sublime, and the B2 is a nice bonus which you'll like if you've fancied any one of the two previously mentioned ones. Steady, focused, gently evolving minimal techno bliss.
Some pretty evil techno on this one, 'Drama' is classic example. Except DVS1 I can hear distant echo of Dettman's and Klock's sound. Solid 12''
DVS1 influences here, no doubt. Minimal and effective. Solid stuff.
