Album
From a Basement on the Hill is the sixth and final studio album by the American singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. Recorded between 2000 and 2003, it was released posthumously in the UK and Europe on Domino on October 18, 2004, and in the US the following day on October 19, 2004 through record label ANTI-. The album was initially planned as a double album, and was incomplete at the time of Smith's death. Many of the songs Smith intended for the album remained unfinished, in some cases only lacking. A Distorted Reality Is Now A Necessity To Be Free From A Basement On The Hill, Elliott Smiths final studio album, was originally released posthumously in 2004. His highest-charting release, From A Basement was met with widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike, noting the albums expanded musical textures that nevertheless retained the welcoming and empathetic intimacy of Smiths songwriting. Rich with swampy guitar lines and hazy vocals, From A Basement unifies the 60s psychedelic sound often cited by Smith as a primary inspiration with his own signature stylings. Upon its release in 2004, almost exactly a year after Elliott Smiths still mysterious death, many critics and fans considered From A Basement on the Hill a sort of suicide note. A 2004 article in Spin had this to say about the albums sound: From the beginning, Smith intended his last album to be more musically fierce, more sonically twisted, and less lyrically abstract than anything he had done before. His inspiration was a record that hed discovered when he was only five years old. He referred to From a Basement on the Hill as his White Album, David McConnell says. Very unproduced, ve. Smith had been working on the album for a long time. His last album, Figure 8, had appeared in 2000, and when it came time to record its follow-up, he parted ways with both his major label, Dreamworks, and his longtime producerengineer, Rob Schnapf, working through a number of different producers, including L. superproducer Jon Brion, before recording a number of sessions with David McConnell, which were supplemented with Smith's. home recordings. Twilight from Elliott Smith's album entitled From A Basement On The Hill. Язык: Русский. Страна: США. Songs in album Elliott Smith - From a Basement on a Hill 2004. Album 2004 15 Songs. Elliott Smith. Alternative 2004. exactly one year after his death last October, Elliott Smith's posthumous final album features 15 songs, most of which are said to have been fully completed by Smith himself before being sent to one-time girlfriend Joanna Bolme and longtime producer Rob Schnapf for mixing. And perhaps surprisingly, From a Basement on the Hill is perfectly coherent and cohesive, without any sense of being slapped together from half-finished parts. The record even boasts a classic Smith opener, the booming and majestic Coast to Coast, which swells in and out in a haze of guitar ping and found sound murmurs. Many of the songs Smith intended for the album remained unfinished, in some cases only lacking vocals. 17 October 2004. From a Basement on the Hill is the sixth and final studio album by the late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. Released posthumously on October 19, 2004 by ANTI- Records in CD, double LP, and digital download, it peaked at 19 in the US and 41 in the UK. The album was incomplete at the time of Smith's death. Elliott Smith has been a patron saint of the indie scene since his days helming Portland heroes Heatmiser. As a solo artist, his fondness for Beatlesque melody led to some of the most beautifully orchestrated pop of the last decade. Conceived as an ambitious double album, FROM A BASEMENT ON THE HILL was ultimately narrowed down to 15 tracks by Smith's close friends, producer Rob Schnapf Beck's MELLOW GOLD, Smith's XO and musician Joanna Bolme the Minders, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks. The result is a heartbreaking collection of songs that plays like a retrospective of Smith's entire career
