But the inclusion of guitarist Reine Fiske adds another strong edge, thanks his work with Dungen, the Amazing, and latter-day Trad, Gräs och Stenar. Opener Black Hole starts with a doomy atmospheric tones and clattering drums before everything shifts toward heavy skronkfunk. It's pretty clear that the performers' intent isn't necessarily to surprise listeners, but to make the best case for their collective improvisational ability from the get-go - and they do, several times over. Reine Fiske makes his entrance on the title track, the long intro section almost sounding like it could have come off an early Terje Rypdal album. No coincident considering Fiske is a big Rypdal fan and Storlkken being Rypdals keyboard player for well over a decade. His guest spot ends with the final thirteen minute tour de force and its heavy funk intro reminiscent of another guitar great and his Band of Gypsys. Atlantis is all originals, four from Storlkken and three from Eilertsen, recorded at Stockholms legendary Atlantis studio under the masterful supervision of Janne Hansson and the band.
