Album
The Take Off and Landing of Everything is the sixth studio album by English rock band Elbow, released in the UK, Europe, and Australia through Fiction Records and Polydor Records on 10 March 2014 and in the US on Concord Records on 11 March 2014. Originally recorded with the working title of All at Once and then renamed Carry Her, Carry Me after a line in closing track The Blanket of Night, the band changed their mind shortly before the album's release and settled on naming the album after one of. 2014 г. Elbow - My Sad s sixth record, it was the bands first UK number 1, on its way to a Gold certification in the country. New York Morning and Charge were both released as singles, with both receiving music videos, and Charge earning a limited Record Store Day release on 7 inch vinyl. The album could be considered a break-up record, with Garveys relationship with Emma Jane Unsworth ending during production. He admitted that some of the lyrics had to be changed as a result. The lyrics are incredibly dense and layered with meaning. The inspiration for lead single New York Morning was a trip Garvey. As with their multi-platinum fourth album, The Seldom Seen Kid and platinum follow-up build a rocket boys, the album was produced by Craig Potter. The Take Off and Landing of Everything is released by Concord, Fiction Records on March 11th. Elbow recorded their sixth album at Real World Studios, making the connection between themselves and Peter Gabriel plain. Much of this connection comes from the husky, subdued rasp of lead singer Guy Garvey, but the band on a whole favors a similar kind of accessible art rock where the textures are lucid yet elliptical while the songs are sturdy and melodic, wearing their accouterments well. This blend helped make 2011's Build a Rocket Boys into a sizable hit in their native Britain and throughout Europe, but The Take Off and Landing of Everything is better still, demonstrating that the. Elbow released their sixth studio album on 10th March to almost universal acclaim. Louder Than War's Fergal Kinney agrees - read on to find out why. Though those hoping for a wild sonic departure wont find it here, The Take Off and Landing of Everything is Elbows most innovative album in nearly a decade and is the sound of a band subverting the expectations of a band of their size, creating a slow burning masterpiece of subtle experimentation and confessional proclamation. The brooding album opener This Blue World is a cinematic soundscape of sweeping arpeggios and owes much to the prog-influence prevalent on their first two records. The triumph of The Take Off and Landing of Everything largely lies in the group's decision to alter the process by which they compose their material. Relegating the songwriting to individuals, rather than writing as a collective, has done wonders as the album shows remarkable consistency when likened to the act's previous offerings. Elbow partially recorded the new album in Real World Studios, which makes their kinship with Peter Gabriel's output unquestionable at this point. Not only does the music have the same elegant, gentlemanly flair to it, but also frontman Guy Garvey's resonant baritone bears a striking resemblance to the evocative rasp of Gabriel. Certainly, Elbow's sixth album sounds like the work of a band who've realised a mass audience loves them not for the big hit, but for what they really are, however improbable that seems: the stages trod by Rihanna and Coldplay and Michael Bublé are not really supposed to ring to the sound of a resolutely unglamorous prog-influenced band who seem. to have taken as their musical starting point the gauzy textures and soulfully bruised but resolutely English vocals of Genesis's 1974 track The Carpet Crawlers. Instead of pushing obvious buttons, The Take Off and Landing of Everything concentrates on what Elbow do best. 10 tracks 57:11
