Discman was Sony's brand name for portable CD players. The first Discman, the D-5 North America and various other countriesD-50, was released in 1984. In 1999, when Sony had built 46 million of the portable CD players, the name was changed to CD Walkman worldwide along with a redesigned Walkman.
