Ninth release of DF, and probably their best so far, in many aspects…
i'm glad to finally hear Marco's voice less ragged and somehow clear from effects. Not that i don't like it rugged and distorted, but it's obvious that this amico has a really good voice. He can sing, and he can do it right. Considering that other vocalists of EBM-"giants" (like f.e F242) don't have this gift, i think that is a clear advantage of DF that should be used more. Also, this is an excellent sounding release. Very clear and robust production. Poor, overwhelm and blurry sound of some previous releases, it was something that surely needed a change… and it changed. Yone has done for once more an outstanding work with the synths… Good bassdrums in general, some great basslines ("Heart of Stone"), a nice guitar add on the background of "Another Loss", and -thankfully- still keeps faith in pluralist strings and Vangelis' melodic atmospheres ("Another Loss", "It's You", and -inevitably- the "Blade Runner Tribute"). Maybe some small gothic and old school trance "cliche" (f.e. some snares and digitals) could be left back and go a bit more on the "progressive" side of things (f.e Moshic), but anyway, as i already mentioned, these are small things, and this is DF's best and most mature work so far...
As for the "highlights", well, tastes differ for sure…but mine clearly says that "I'm The Night" is the super track of the album (and a song that Xymox would possibly die to had written by themselves). After that, "Another Loss", "Heart of Stone", "It's You", and "Blade Runner Tribute", are brilliant tracks IMHO, and i can't really pick someone as best. Only if i strictly had to pick just one of them, i'd choose the "Blade Runner Tribute", for two reasons… Firstly because i'm a pure fan of electronic music (starting from Kraftwerk and Jarre), and secondly because in my poor country we use to say that "if you don't tell a good thing about your house, the roof will fall on your head!" (and that means that i speak the same language with Vangelis…).
Bottom line… Fantastic job DF... Keep up the good work!
