It is considered to be the darkest of the band's releases, having been written after a series of deaths in frontman Peter Steele's family. It was also the band's first album to reach the Top 40 on the Billboard 200. As with the band's previous album, October Rust, this album also has a 'joke intro': in this case, Skip It, 11 seconds of staccato band noise, is meant to sound as if the listener's CD player is skipping. The current line up features Atlas on Vocals, Obo on bass and Pag on guitar both formerly of Fifty On Red with Sam joining the line-up lately and Kirky coming in on second guitar. As of July 2009 they have released a demo tape, the World Coming Down 7cd and the End Time Prophecies LP on Dead And Gone Records, played hundreds of shows up and down the country and also toured Europe in June 2007, july 2008 and august 2009. Three full years after their last album, Type O Negative finally returned with World Coming Down, a record that might alienate some fans brought on board with October Rust but which actually stands with the best of their work. Many of the songs most closely resemble the dirgier parts of Bloody Kisses - still melodic, but not as immediately accessible, and taken at crawling tempos that would give Black Sabbath on downers a run for their money.
