Deadbeat Format: Audio CD. 0 out of 5 stars 1 rating. Deadbeat's collections of live and mixed material are all fine and dandy, but Drawn and Quartered is a whole other animal. Very much in the vein of Echospace Detroit's many releases many of which are done by one or both of its musical grandmasters, this album consists of four fuzzy, spaced out, subliminally ambient tracks of minimalist beats and deep layers of sound. Definitely for fans of Deepchord especially the Hash Bar Loops album, Echospace, Luke Hess, Cuetec, Basic Channel, and many others in the minimalist dub genre. Read more. 3 people found this helpful. Deadbeat - Drawn & Quartered Pretty much the only way for dub techno to sound interesting-or at least interest people-these days is to be so experimental that it barely even qualifies as dub techno anymore. Quite a quandary. Canadian producer Deadbeat, now based in Berlin, has always embraced this anything-goes spirit, filling last album Roots & Wire with cross-genre flirtations and presenting a stunning and canon-challenging vision of dub techno history with his Radio Rothko mix CD. Scott Monteith's sixth album is a bit daring placed against his back catalogue, then,. Completa la tua Collezione su Deadbeat

Choosing a favorite from Deadbeat's vast catalog is near impossible but DRAWN AND QUARTERED would be my gun-to-the-head pick. "First Quarter" dives immediately into an icy subterranean cavern, seductive and menacing. Organ pulses and some exotic percussion join "Second Quarter" for a skeletal, futuristic dub exploration. "The Vampire of Mumbai" surfaces for air with echoing horn stabs over a simple, hypnotic beat; Montieth could construct a track like this in his sleep but it's no less impressive for it. The tempo increases on "Cala's House" as it glides through the atmosphere propelled by a 4/4 thump and some sparkling chords; this could almost pass for Kompakt-era Orb in a blind listening test. Finally, CD-only bonus cut "Plateau Quarter (Hope in Numbers)" is truly breathtaking, something like what you'd hear as your body is transitioning from the corporal to the ethereal. Indescribably sublime.

As with nearly all of Montieth's work, the level of detail here is incredible, the production immaculate. Utter perfection, from start to finish. 5/5

This is the perfect album for long train rides at night and strolls through foreign cities. I used to listen to this while travelling Southeast Asia and it always instantly brings up the memories. My fave Deadbeat.
