Millennial Geishas 10. Last Line 11. Queen 12. A Real You Cullen Omori's path to his second album The Diet wasn't an easy one. After the release of his first album, New Misery, he had to deal with busted vans, crashed cars, mangled relationships, and other trials that can leave one feeling like the world is playing a cosmic joke. Album 2018 12 Songs. The Diet Cullen Omori. Omori sounded sweetly bummed out on his previous effort, 2016's New Misery, which was primarily recorded with Omori handling all the instrumental chores himself. However, for these sessions, Omori and producer Taylor Locke brought in a handful of accompanists to help out, and the difference is clear from the outset. The Diet sounds brighter and more engaging than Omori's debut, and if this doesn't resemble sunshine pop, it is consistently warmer and more welcoming than New Misery. The Diet. Cullen Omori. Released August 17, 2018. The Diet Tracklist. Four Years Lyrics. I named the album The Diet because to go on a diet, you cut back on certain things and regulate your intake of others. The idea that you can do that means you must have a surplus of whatever youre trying to limit. I was so emotionally and spiritually drained, and my only surplus was a bunch of negative feelings and a lot of self-loathing. I tried to limit and confront those feelings in ways that I felt were productive. Listen free to Cullen Omori The Diet Four Years, Borderline Friends and more. 12 tracks 38:15. We in the homestretch now gang 5 days to go until my new album The Diet is released. Really hope the roll out and reception is much better than the last record I put out. That gold scale emoji he tweeted suggests justice. The Diet, 2018. Now playing . Genre: Indie Pop. While New Misery was steeped in severity and perhaps a strained sense of needing to prove oneself, The Diet cuts off the pretentious fat. The resulting sound is inventive, fun, fresh, and perhaps Omori's best release to-date. Full Review. Cullen Omori figured his shit out quickly. The difference between those first two Smith Westerns albums-the no-fi garage-pop slop of 2009s self-titled effort versus with the widescreen glam of 2011s Dye It Blonde-felt like more than a just a typical case of a young band making a dramatic leap to avoid the sophomore slump. Sure, the Smith Westerns 2013 swan song, Soft Will, upped the prog factor, while Omoris 2016 solo debut, New Misery, added some modernist pop touches, but hes remained comfortably floating at the same cruising altitude
