Album
The Feeding of the 5000 is the first album by the anarcho-punk band Crass. The album was recorded on 29 October 1978, by John Loder at Southern Studios and was released the same year. It was considered revolutionary in its time due to what was considered an extreme sound, frequently profane lyrical content and the anarchist political ideals in the lyrics. The album also saw the introduction of Crass's policy of ensuring cheap prices for their records. This album is considered one of the first punk. 2019 г. The Second Sitting is a reprint of Crass' first LP, replacing the one-minute silent track The Sound of Free Speech with Asylum, the track that was originally supposed to open the album. Original pressings in 1979 lacked Asylum due to the workers refusing to print the tracks blasphemous language. The Feeding of the 5000 The Second Sitting Q&A. Artwork Gee Vaucher. The album has been remastered by Alex Gordon and Penny Rimbaud at Abbey Road Studios as close as possible to the sound of the original release as it was in the beginning - From distributor website. Comes in clear protective outer sleeve with white sticker on front stating remastered at Abbey Road Studios. Other copies have 6 crossed out and replaced with a supposedly hand written 5, this occurred on second pressings of the original release. The first issue original release just has 621984. THIS release has 6 crossed out and is replaced by a supposedly hand written 4. Crass was the first group to take the idea seriously. The band has had an inestimable influence on both punk rock and anarchism. As such, it is hard to call the band over-rated in this regard, but as a musical group Crass suffered from repetitiveness, poor production and all around poor musicianship. The Feeding of the 5000 is no exception. The album created huge amounts of controversy even before it was released. Workers at the pressing plant refused to manufacture the record, as they felt the lyrics of the opener Asylum were blasphemous. And they are. In the extreme. I think it w. Perhaps the most uncompromising early British punk record, though a long way from the best. This is far more interesting for its form than its content super-brief, incoherent rants over pummeling drums and incomprehensible vocals were made into a hardcore cliché by the early '80s, but were impossibly radical and noisy in 1978.
