Moonchild - Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band signed to A&M and released two singles in 1966. The first was a version of Bo Diddley's Diddy Wah Diddy that became a regional hit in Los Angeles. The followup, Moonchild written by David Gates, later of the band Bread was less well received. The Captain and his band members were initially denied entry to the United Kingdom, because Meaden had illegally booked them for gigs without applying for appropriate work permits. After returning to Germany for a few days, press coverage and public outcry resulted in the band being permitted to re-enter the UK, where they recorded material for John Peel's radio show. After two singles in the vein of popular rhythm n' blues, the group underwent dramatic changes in their musical style, culminating in the Frank Zappa-produced album Trout Mask Replica, a work conceived and directed by Don Van Vliet - better known as Captain Beefheart. He then followed a career as a solo artist, working with a rotating assembly of musicians comprising The Magic Band. Both David and the Captain moved onto bigger things. Captain Beefhearts Trout Mask Replica reached 21 on the UK album chart in 1969 although he had to wait until 1972 to enter the US album chart, when The Spotlight Kid reached 72 UK, 44. Buddha Records reissued this album in the early 70's with a quote from rock writer and Beefheart proponent Langdon Winner: One of the forgotten classics of rock 'n roll history- and right he was. Other highlights include the happy-go-lucky skipping neo-bubblegum whimsey of Yellow Brick Road, the African log-drum chant frenzy Abba Zaba, the down-and-dirty bluesy churn of Plastic Factory, the aforementioned theremin-laced doomsday reel of Electricity Van Vliet: Basically a square know, a bunch of squares, d. Moonchild Moonchild Moonchild On the night she was born The lightning flashed and the thunder roared But when they heard her cry The clouds rolled back and the full moon filled the sky Shining down in her eye And it made her cry Can you hear her cry Moonchild She always looks so pale The things she spoke and a long white veil Moonchild She has wrapped up so tight Your mind comes loose and you drift on out of sight She's a child of the night And like a child she cries Can you hear her cry.
