Brainbox is a Dutch rock group from the late 1960searly 1970s. The band was founded in Amsterdam by guitarist Jan Akkerman , drummer Pierre van der Linden and singer Kazimir Lux Kaz. Their debut single was Down Man, which established their progressive blues sound. They had several hit singles in the Netherlands, including Between Alpha and Omega, Doomsday Train, Reason to Believe and Smile. Lovecraft, and their eponymous album is a worthwhile collection of musically diverse and eclectic performances. The decent liner notes call this progressive pop, and in some respects it is, though they shift gears from the Simon & Garfunkel classic Scarborough FairCanticle to the 17-minute plus original Sea of Delight, and take lots of other directions in between. The album was, therefore, not fully acknowledged as a Brainbox album by fans. The 21st century saw two reunions of the almost complete original '1970 line-up': the first in 2003, the second from 2009 onwards. 2011 even saw the release of a new studio album, entitled The 3rd Flood, Brainbox' third studio album since 1970.
