On Björk's official site it said that the song is about an experience she had when she was little, she fell and hurt her knee, she then filled her mouth with snow to try to relieve the pain. Drew Daniel of Matmos, who did programming on the track, said: I made some of the rhythms for the song Aurora by sampling just the sound of the spit on Björks lips as they would separate, and Id turn that into a snare or a kick so it felt.
