I feel extremely privileged to have witnessed one of the concerts of Big Country's farewell tour in May 2000. It was at Rock City, Nottingham, a week or so before the 'final fling' at Glasgow. What a night THAT must have been Thankfully this film exists so that future generations can see for themselves what an extraordinary band B. Big Country left behind quite a few concert videos, representing several different phases in their history. The very best of them was the New Year's Eve concert in Glasgow from 1983 issued as Big Country Live on laserdisc and King Biscuit Flower Hour on CD, where band and hometown audience were totally in sync for a profoundly moving performance. This double-disc DVD set - which appears on the Track Records imprint by way of Classic Pictures, isn't quite in that league, but as the Glasgow show hadn't turned up on DVD as of 2005, it makes a more than decent substitute. THE FINAL FLING showcases the LIVE IN BERLIN performance which was recorded live during Germany's Peace Concert in 1988. Also highlighted is their very last performance at the Glasgow Barrowlands in 2000 during the DRIVING TO DAMASCUS tour.
