Ben Webster is captured here on one of his many New York club dates from the first half of the '50s. Backed by the first incarnation of the Modern Jazz Quartet - pianist John Lewis, vibraphonist Milt Jackson, bassist Percy Heath, and drummer Kenny Clarke - Webster lights up the Birdland audience with his usual mix of vaporous ballads and bluesy swingers.
