Tom Krause is good as Don Pizarro, slightly more baritonal and lyrical than Berry on the Klemperer recording but of about equal quality. Neither of them matches the sheer viciousness that was Gustav Neidlinger's stock in trade. Kurt Boehme is a peer of Klemperer's Frick. McCracken is more dramatic Böhme is grimmer Nilssons training in both Handel and Wagner works well she is sensational. Krause is a powerful Pizarro. Grobe is rather stiff you can see why a lively Graziella Sciutti is not overly attracted. 2 CD. US1996.
