This was not the last recording made by the great Czech conductor Jiří Bělohlávek it was taken from festival performances in 2014. It is perhaps, however, the final Bělohlávek release, and as such it makes a fine swan song. There is perhaps no Czech symphonic work outside of Dvorák's collection more widely recorded than Má Vlast, Bedrich Smetana's collection of tone poems about the physical Czech landscape. Jiří Bělohlávek, who died in 2017, was a master of the music of his native Czech Republic. He recorded many of that musical nations classics, such as the symphonies of Dvořák, and, on this posthumous release, he conducts Czech musical icon Smetanas set of six tone poems Má Vlast My Country. This music is in the very bones of the Czech Philharmonic and they play it with an utterly idiomatic style, but also with a palpable love and pride. Bedrich Smetana wrote a cycle of six symphonic poems called Ma Vlast My Country during the late Nineteenth Century. One of the pieces, The Vltava The Moldau is very well known and gets included in many albums of music by Czech composers e. Smetana, Dvorak, and Janacek. The other five pieces are less well known, but together they make up a wonderful piece of music. Rafael Kubelik was a great Czech musician and conductor who left his country in 1948, when the Communists overthrew the democratic government, and he vowed never to return until things improved. He finally went home in 1990 when democracy was restored. The Česká filharmonie Czech Philharmonic is a symphony orchestra based in Prague. The orchestra's principal concert venue is the Rudolfinum. The name Czech Philharmonic Orchestra appeared for the first time in 1894, as the title of the orchestra of the Prague National Theatre. It played its first concert under its current name on January 4, 1896 when Antonín Dvořák conducted his own compositions, but it did not become fully independent from the opera until 1901. The first representative concert
