The concept behind Amps for Christ is this: its members play acoustic instruments, woodwinds, and organs, but process them electronically into a strange, highly distorted mid-range murk. This creates a very interesting mess - most of the sounds on Thorny Path seem like they'd be fascinating in the context of a more direct album, but they become a bit trying by themselves the album is the sort of experiment that could be brilliant but isn't particularly listenable. Amps For Christ is the current music project of Man Is the Bastard and Bastard Noise veteran and metalnoise pioneer Henry Barnes. The project is based out of Claremont, California. Conceptually, Amps for Christ originated in 1996, when Barnes met recording enthusiast and The Dull bandmember Enid Snarb. Barnes decided that he wanted to combine his experience with experimental noise and extreme metal with his love for traditional folk music, classical composition and jazz. Barnes and his friend and.
