Composer Alvin Curran born 13 December 1938 in Providence, Rhode Island is the co-founder, with Frederic Rzewski and Richard Teitelbaum, of Musica Elettronica Viva, and a former student of Elliott Carter. Curran's music often makes use of electronics and environmental found sounds. Provided to YouTube by The Orchard Enterprises. At the same time, it harked back to a simpler time in e-music, when loops, echo, and feedback were the primary recording tools. While this is a unique and original recording, it has definite echoes of the mid-'60s work of Terry Riley, Pauline Oliveros, and Steve Reich. Curran uses the available technology to manipulate his music and sounds. The chants have overtone and harmonic singing qualities. This is a good disc and a fun disc.
