Om: Sound of Hinduism 1967 was appropriately enough issued in 1967, during which time Watts was being heard on the progressive community radio station KPFA-FM in Berkeley, CA. His weekly Sunday morning broadcasts offered many Bay Area listeners an alternative to the traditional and decidedly more formal church service. Alan Wilson Watts 6 January 1915 16 November 1973 was a British writer and speaker known for interpreting and popularising Buddhism, Taoism, and Hinduism for a Western audience. Born in Chislehurst, England, he moved to the United States in 1938 and began Zen training in New York.
