I Robot is the second studio album by British rock band The Alan Parsons Project, released on 1 June 1977 by Arista Records. The album draws conceptually on author Isaac Asimov's science fiction Robot trilogy, exploring philosophical themes regarding artificial intelligence. It was re-released on vinyl and cassette tape in 1984 and on CD in 2007. The I Robot album came out at a very fortuitous time, unknown to anyone, as completely unplanned, the album with a robot on its cover hit record stores in the US the same week as Star Wars was released and suddenly robots were all the rage and the Project was the only album being featured with a robotic cover.
